Mill Road Merlot Cabernet
The grapes for this wine were 100% grown in Hawkes Bay and are from two of our
vineyards – Tantallon and Campbell Brook. These two vineyards consistently provide us
with our best Bordeaux blend fruit.

Careful monitoring of the ripening process and close proximity to the winery allow for
multiple picks across the block so we can achieve the perfect ripeness and blending
options. The fruit for this wine was machine harvested. The fruit was crushed directly to
the fermentation vessels.
Individual parcels of fruit were fermented separately – some in stainless steel tanks with
pumping over and some in rotary fermenters. Following fermentation and extended
maceration of up to 1 week the wine was pressed off. Some of the wine was tankered
to our Katikati winery for maturation in stainless steel. The remainder was retained at
our Riverview winery to be matured in oak. In each case, all the wine was inoculated for
malolactic fermentation. The various parcels were blended in Katikati and given a
traditional egg white fining.
