Mystery Creek Pinot Noir
The Pinot Noir for this wine is grown on our Home Block vineyard at our winery site on the South bank of the Waikato River. The loam soils of the site are interspersed with river gravels which creates potential for strong canopies but with good soil drainage.2013
was characterised by a warm, dry growing season which allowed good fruit ripening and low disease pressure.
The parcels for this wine were picked from multiple blocks representing multiple clonal selections at varying stages throughout the harvest season.Hand harvesting and gentle maceration techniques were used to manage the phenolic extraction and retain the individual characters of each block. The wine spent 10months in oak before blending and bottling.
This wine exhibits aromas of cranberry, black cherry and complimentary spices and it has an underlying savoriness that adds complexity. The palate is full bodied for a Pinot Noir with the balance maintained by the punchy acidity and softly textured phenolics.
Perfect with red meat or tomato based dishes seasoned carefully with herbs or pepper/clove spices.
